Leipzig is not only famous because of its long trade fair tradition but also because of its multifaceted music and cultural scene. Owing to its unique system of passageways, the historic city centre exudes a distinctive flair. Stylish boutiques and top department stores invite visitors to shop and stroll. Most of the city’s sights are located within walking distance, e. g. the Old Town Hall, St. Thomas Church, St. Nicholas Church, diverse museums and galleries. Cultural enjoyment is among others provided by the Gewandhaus, the Leipzig Opera or the world-famous St. Thomas Boys Choir.

New Mendelssohn House

The highlight of the extended museum: The
Since 2014, the new, extended Mendelssohn House is open in Leipzig with a completely new floor. It’s the world’s only Mendelssohn museum. New interactive features include an audio-video library, a so-called "Effektorium" and a rotating paternoster cabinet.

Leipzig Festival of Lights

In 2015, Germany is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the German Reunification. The highlight of the celebrations in Leipzig will be the Festival of Lights on 9 October. "Liberty - Equality - Fraternity?" is the motto of this year - critically backlighting this statement and, thus, punctuated by a question mark.
Throughout the evening, the visitors of the Festival of Lights are, as in previous years, invited to form an illuminated "89" with thousands of candles.

New direct flights:


Flughafen Leipzig-Halle
Ethihad Regional - operated by Darwin Airline already connects Leipzig/Halle Airport with Paris, Amsterdam and Zurich- and since 1 July 2014 with Geneva. Since April 2014, Vueling serves a new direct flight from Barcelona to Leipzig. Flights can be booked in travel agencies or online.

Leipzig Music Trail

A Musical Walk

Leipzig has a concentration of authentic famous composer's homes and workplaces that is unique in the world. The aim of Leipzig's Music Trail inititative is to make this treasure visible and tangible. Curved stainless-steel shapes set in the ground mark the "ribbon" that winds its way through the city centre and highlights the musical tradition within in cityscape.

150th anniversary 2014

In June 2014, the music world will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Richard Strauss. The highlight of the series will be the concert by the Vienna Philharmonic with Christoph Eschenbach and Lang Lang on 24 May, 2014. Book the very last tickets with our themed travel offer.
